Yellow Crownbeard

The seeds in your ladybug are Verbesina encelioides, also known as yellow crownbeard or cowpen daisy.

Yellow crownbeard is an annual that grows to approximately 2 feet tall and will frequently reseed.

Although this wildflower is often pulled as a weed, it has a yellow flower that monarch butterflies use as a food source as they migrate through Oklahoma.

A good place to plant your seeds is in a sunny area along a back fence or other area of your yard where the plants can grow freely and reseed on their own.

The yellow crownbeard seeds were donated by Chuck Grimes with Grasslander in Hennessey, OK.
